We are saddened to report that Lauren Bacall, Femme Fatale, and Noir Starlet, has passed away at the age of 89 of an apparent stroke. The loss of not only a great actress, but a figure in cinematic history is a deep loss to film. Her works in Noir helped shape the genre, most specifically in the classic, The Big Sleep, in which she starred opposite her husband, Humphrey Bogart.

When Bacall and Bogart were married Bogart was 20 years Bacall’s senior. They had two children together. After¬†Bogart’s passing of lung cancer, Bacall was briefly engaged to Frank Sinatra, and remarried to Jason Robards. The Tony and Oscar winner was tough as nails and let you. She was not only a Femme Fatale in film, she was one in life.

Her career spanned 60 years, from acting in her 20s, both on screen and stage, to doing voice work for films like Howl’s Moving Castle. She was always highly spoken of, kind, and an excellent talent in the world of film. Our world is a little less interesting without her, but her films will forever stay in our hearts and memories.
