Earlier this morning it was reported that horror director, Wes Craven, the mind behind The Hills Have Eyes, A Nightmare on Elf Street, and Scream, has passed away from brain cancer at the age of 76.

He was among the most prolific film directors of the last 4o years, helping to define the slasher movie genre, and still managing to branch out and complete works outside of the comfort of Freddy’s claws. Not only was he an instrumental cog in the 80’s slasher craze, he was also the front runner when it came to poking fun at the genre he helped create. As a director he brought to our screens more delights and frights than can be counted, and as an individual in the industry he laid the seeds for future generations to create bolder works of art.

He will be sorely missed.
